As banks increasingly adopt AI to transform customer experiences and operations, the need to protect sensitive data, address emerging cyber threats and strengthen privacy practices has become more critical than ever.

Bringing these priorities into focus, Mr. Sameer Ahirrao, Founder & CEO of Ardent Privacy, participated in a special e-panel hosted by the State Bank Institute of Technology (SBIT) on “Banking in the Age of AI: From Cyber Threats, Consumer Privacy to Intelligent Defense.”

The discussion reinforced an important perspective: effective cybersecurity and responsible AI adoption begin with knowing, understanding and controlling your data. As AI introduces new data exposure risks, organizations need to bring data discovery, privacy management, data minimization and AI governance together rather than address them as separate initiatives.

**Key themes from the discussion included:**

- **AI-Driven Cyber Threats:** Understanding where sensitive data resides, how it moves and who has access to it is fundamental to strengthening cyber defense.
- **Operationalizing DPDPA Compliance:** Embedding personal data discovery, consent management, purpose limitation, data minimization and breach management into everyday business processes.
- **Connecting AI Governance with Data Privacy:** Addressing risks across AI training data, prompts, model outputs and third-party AI applications.
- **Data Minimization as a Security Control:** Reducing unnecessary data collection and retention to limit exposure to breaches, misuse and unintended AI processing.

At Ardent Privacy, we believe that data visibility, privacy automation and AI governance must work together to help organizations protect personal data while adopting AI responsibly. This integrated approach is particularly important for the banking sector, where sensitive customer information, evolving regulatory requirements and growing AI adoption intersect.

We thank Mr. Ranjan Kumar Nayak (GM & Director, SBIT) for the welcome, Mr. Ramakant Mohapatra for sharing his valuable experience, and Mr. SVN Murty for moderating an engaging discussion. We also appreciate the State Bank of India community for their participation and insightful questions.
