MAVA ANNOUNCES LINEUP OF EARLY-STAGE COMPANIES JOINING FOREFRONT 2020 INDUSTRY PROGRAM FOCUSED ON ECONOMIC RECOVERY, CAPITAL INVESTMENT, AND INCLUSION

Washington, D.C. – September 16, 2020 – MAVA will host its inaugural Forefront 2020 virtual business conference on September 22 – 23, 2020, convening business leaders who are focused on economic recovery efforts and opportunities that provide greater access to key resources for entrepreneurs of all backgrounds. Topics to be discussed during the two-day virtual program include investment trends, operational best practices in a post-COVID environment, talent and hiring initiatives, key entrepreneurial resources, and more. As part of the two-day business program, 35 startups have been competitively selected to showcase their story on the Forefront virtual stage. These companies were selected due to their innovative approach to a consumer or enterprise problem, each having proven customer validation and on a demonstrated growth trajectory.
“With the leadership and support of our members firms, MAVA launched the Forefront initiative last year to bring together active investors, high-growth companies, and corporate leaders from across the industry who are committed to fostering diversity and inclusion across our entrepreneurial ecosystem,” said Julia Spicer, Executive Director of MAVA.
“Forefront takes steps to further expand access to capital and other key resources for all founder groups – particularly those that have been underrepresented to-date – as well as provides a platform to advance business discussions surrounding how we can foster economic opportunities and create better, and more sustainable, pathways in today’s challenging business environment,” continued Spicer. “We are pleased to announce the strong cohort of selected startups as part of the Forefront 2020 virtual program, 75% of which self-identified as qualifying as underrepresented through our competitive application process.”
Forefront is a timely initiative designed to open up new pathways for entrepreneurs, allowing them to engage more fully throughout their lifecycle and take advantage of the resources available across this robust entrepreneurial ecosystem – whether that be access to capital, market visibility, connections to trusted accelerators and incubators, touchpoints with leading advisors, or otherwise. The two-day business gathering will facilitate shared learning among a business audience of active investors, high-growth company executives, and corporate partners who are all focused on the building of next-generation market leaders. Selected startups represent some of the most innovative solutions hitting the marketplace today and cover a wide range of industry sectors including business services, consumer/retail, data/analytics, e-commerce, healthIT, cyber/security, telecom, medical devices, energy/alternative, and more.
