Mr. Sameer Ahirrao, CEO of Ardent Privacy outlines the importance of “AI Ethics by Design Is the Way Ahead to Protect Privacy” at RSA Conference 2023

As the demand for transparency and accountability of Artificial Intelligence (AI) models that use personal data is growing, especially in the digital age where privacy is imperative, and in some geographies, an individual right protected by the government. With the growing dominance of AI and concerns for its responsible use, is it time to move toward AI ethics by design?

At the RSA Conference 2023, in interview with Information Security Media Group (ISMG), Mr. Sameer Ahirrao, talked with Mr. Rahul Neel Mani, Founding Director of Grey Head Media and VP of Community Engagement (ISMG) about AI Ethics by design and how we need to be ahead of this before it gets too bad.

Mr. Sameer Ahirrao emphasized the importance of AI ethics based on what data you feed to those models, which are basically running on all those algorithms. It's a lot about training. And if that data is biased itself, it can have a large impact. He also talked about AI regulatory guidelines by saying “How can you regulate something which you don't know where it's heading”.

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSA Conference 2023, Mr. Sameer Ahirrao discussed mainly on following points :

  • The role of data governance in responsible use of AI;
  • The value of regulatory sandboxes;
  • How to minimize the impact of personal data use and privacy in AI-based models.

To combat and overcome the continuous challenges of adaptability, emanating from the evolving Privacy laws, he strongly recommended the adoption of the ‘AI Ethics by Design' (embedding Privacy during the inception phase), so enterprises are ready for new regulations and can avoid rework with new requirements.
